A Texas actress has been sentenced to 18 years behind bars for sending President Barack Obama and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg ricin-laced letters.
CNN reported that the U.S. attorney's office said that in addition to the prison sentence, Shannon Guess Richardson will also have to pay $367,000 in restitution.
"Today's sentencing brings an appropriate and just end to what is surely one of our most unusual, even bizarre cases," John Bales, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Texas, said in a statement.
The Associated Press noted that the 36-year-old also sent the laced letters to Mark Glaze with The Raben Group. Glaze was the director of Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns group.
Richardson had originally tried to pin the crime on her estranged husband, but in December she pleaded guilty to possessing and producing a biological toxin.
The actress is a mother of six children and has had minor roles in film and television including small parts in The Blind Side, The Vampire Diaries and The Walking Dead.
