While there was some speculation recently about the status of Sony’s Amazing Spider-Man, the studio responded in a big way the day before Comic-Con. Sony has scheduled Sinister Six for 2016, with The Amazing Spider-Man 3 now not coming out until 2018.
Sinister Six centers on the villains of the Spider-Man world and will be written and directed by Drew Goddard. According to TheWrap, it is scheduled for release on Nov. 11, 2016, making it the first Spider-Man movie not released in the summer.
ASM 3 will now be coming out in 2018. Sony had high hopes last year that 2018 would see ASM 4, with ASM 3 coming out in May 2016.
Sony was really hoping that ASM would be the studio’s big franchise, even making an attempt to create a universe with a team of writers working to connect the movies. The studio even boasted plans for a Spider-Man movie every year, but that’s not going to happen now.
This news follows Roberto Orci’s IGN interview this month, in which he suggested that the studio doesn’t exactly have set plans for ASM 3, Sinister Six and Venom. Of course, Orci has little to do with ASM now, since he’s leaving to direct Star Trek 3.
With ASM 3 now delayed, Sony has scheduled Seth Gordon’s Uncharted for release on June 10, 2016. The film is based on the hit video game series about adventurer Nathan Drake.
