The first trailer for the Jimi Hendrix biopic Jimi: All Is by My Side has been released. The video can be seen below.

OutKast’s Andre Benjamin plays the rock legend in the film. This is his first film role since the 2008 Will Ferrell comedy Semi-Pro, Entertainment Weekly reported. Benjamin is joined onscreen by Hayley Atwell and Imogen Poots.

The film was written and directed by John Ridley, who won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on 12 Years a Slave. According to Variety, Ridley was inspired to make the film after hearing Hendrix’s song “Sending My Love to Linda,” which is about fashion model Linda Keith. Keith helped Hendrix foster his career after she heard him perform in London in 1966. This will be Ridley’s first time directing a feature-length film since 1997’s Cold Around the Heart.

After it premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, the film was picked up for U.S. distribution by XLrator and Open Road. The film will be released on Sept. 26.
