Angelina Jolie has already established herself as an actress, having already won an Oscar and still proving her box office power with Maleficent this summer. But, of late, Jolie has also been creating a second career for herself as a filmmaker. Starting with her directorial debut, the underrated In the Land of Blood and Honey in 2011, and continuing this year with the awards-hopeful Unbroken, set to hit theaters this Christmas.

But it appears that is just the beginning for the Jolie's career as the director, and her next project behind the camera will be finding herself in comfortable territory, both behind and in front of the camera, with her new hubby Brad Pitt.

In a press release from Universal Studios, found by The Playlist, Jolie's third film as a director will be By the Sea, which will co-star her husband and Mr. and Mrs. Smith screen partner Pitt. In addition to starring and directing in the movie, Jolie also wrote it, with which the details of the plot are currently still a mystery. All the press release says is that the movie is an "intimate, character driven drama."

Jolie is still in post-production on Unbroken, which is also being distributed by Universal, so she won't be gearing up for this movie for at least a couple months. But it does prove that she is considering a long term career as a filmmaker. Additionally, this movie will serve as the first time Jolie will star in any of her directorial efforts, and the first time since Pitt and Jolie have been on screen together since Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Both will also produce this new movie.

Additionally, this news seems to prove that Universal is happy with her work on her second directing effort. Universal chairman Donna Langley's comments seem to agree with this assessment.

“Angelina continues to showcase her extraordinary storytelling abilities in front of and behind the camera and we are thrilled to extend our relationship with her on By the Sea,” Langley said. “Angelina and Brad represent two of Hollywood’s brightest talents and we are excited to be a part of their collaboration on this powerful piece.”

Additionally, Jolie had the following to say on her new movie.

"I am very happy to continue my relationship with Donna and the entire Universal team as I finish Unbroken and begin work on By The Sea. They have created a very special place for storytellers, and I look forward to the continued passion and support they have provided to me as a filmmaker.”

This project was first announced a couple months ago, as The Playlist also recounts, but this is the first certified announcement of the movie, including its official title. Or any title at all, for that matter. With Unbroken coming out soon, expect more word on this new film in the upcoming months.
