Archie, beloved comic book hero, will die protecting his gay best friend Kevin Keller in the comic no. 36 of Life with Archie.
Archie, who has been in comics since 1941, will jump in front of a bullet aimed for Keller, protecting his friend and ensuring the future of a Riverdale according to the Associated Press. Keller, who joined the Archie gang in 2010, is a senator pushing for gun control in the Life with Archie series.
Through his sacrifice for his friend, Archie dies in heroic way appropriate for such a beloved character. Speaking of the death, Archie Comics publisher and co-CEO Jon Goldwater stated to the Associated Press that, "He dies heroically. He dies selflessly. He dies in the manner that epitomizes not only the best of Riverdale but the best of all of us. It's what Archie has come to represent over the past almost 75 years."
Fortunately for fans of the freckled character, Life with Archie shows snapshots of Archie’s life (and now death) in the future as reported by CNN,so fans can still read about present day Archie without having to resort to the archives.
Life with Archie no. 36 comes out on July 16.
