Facebook users will soon no longer be able to message each other via the Facebook app. Those who seek access to the social network’s messaging feature will have to download the Messenger app.
A Facebook spokeswoman explained recently that the reason behind this change is to “avoid the confusion of having separate Facebook mobile messaging experiences,” as reported by CNN. She said that Facebook “will keep working to make it an even more engaging way to connect with people.”
Throughout the next few days, Facebook will be notifying its users that they will be unable to access their messages without the additional app. But, the adjustment will have a minimal effect on users; they will be able to open the Messenger app by just tapping on the Facebook app’s Messenger icon, and there will be a “return to Facebook” button on the Messenger app.
Owners of iOS, Android, and Windows phones are able to download the Facebook Messenger app, according to Forbes.
