Nearly 200 bodies were piled into four refrigerated boxcars by Pro-Moscow rebels in eastern Ukraine on Sunday.
According to the Associated Press, President Vladimir Putin spoke to the leaders of Britain, France, Germany and Australia by phone.
Putin ensured leaders that the bodies would be sent back to their countries, and that investigations would begin.
The crash site has become the center of attention, with rebels being accused of trying to tamper with evidence.
The government of Kiev released recording of rebels supposedly trying to hide the plane’s black box, reported the AFP.
Relatives of crash victims continue to wait anxiously, as the bodies have yet to be sent back to their home countries.
“The bodies will go nowhere until experts arrive,” rebel leader Alexander Borodai said.
Borodair also denied allegations that the rebels were tampering with evidence.
One mother, Silene Fredriksz-Hoogzand, pleaded with Putin to send the body of her son and his girlfriend home.
“Mr. Putin, send my children home. Send them home. Please.”
