Authorities said an 11-year-old boy in North Carolina shot and killed his grandfather after he shot the child’s father.

According to WTVD, deputies were called to the Vance County home around 7 p.m. Monday for a domestic dispute.

WRAL noted that when officers arrived they found the 84-year-old grandfather and homeowner, Lloyd Woodlief, shot once in the chest with a 12 guage shotgun. His son, 49-year-old Lloyd Peyton Woodlief, had also been shot, with a .22-caliber long pistol. The grandson was not injured.

The eldest Woodlief was pronounced dead at the scene and his son was taken to a medical center in Durham to be treated for his gunshot wound.

Police have concluded that the 11-year-old shot his grandfather after a family fight, but did not say what sparked the violence.

Friends are shocked by what transpired and told TWC that the Woodliefs were a nice family who went to church often.

Charges in the case are still pending and the incident remains under investigation.
