A mother was asked to leave by police officers at a Brad Paisley concert in San Diego because she was endangering her baby, but she believes it was because she was breastfeeding in public.
According to The Tennessean, Megan Christopherson was asked to leave a Brad Paisley concert by police who believed the concert was unsafe for an infant. Christopherson had previously asked by concert workers to stop breastfeeding in public and she believes this is the real reason she was asked to leave.
"I'm shocked. I'm disgusted at our society that women are shamed into nursing in bathrooms or their cars or feeding their baby a bottle only, because they're scared to nurse in public," Christopherson told NBC.
Christopherson ultimately decided to leave the concert after being given the option to move to a seated area free of charge or exit the venue.
The Chula Vista Police Department released a statement on its website saying, "The Chula Vista Police Department's involvement in the incident was due to the welfare and safety of the infant and not due to a mother's legal right to breastfeed in public."
Christopherson told NBC she plans on hiring a lawyer and expects an official apology from the security company at the concert venue.
