Baseball Hall of Famer Anthony La Russa has a lot to be proud of. In addition to being a recognized baseball manager, La Russa and his wife have found a way to keep animals and people together.
An American Major League Baseball executive, La Russa managed the Cardinals and won two World Series titles. His career began in 1963. He was an infielder and a manager, and his winning style is known to the Chicago White Sox, Oakland athletics, and St. Louis Cardinals. La Russa guided teams to three World Series titles, six league championships, and twelve division titles in 33 seasons.
In his long career, he’s also found time for a good cause. Always prepared to see wins on many sides, La Russa formed a foundation that works with animals and their caretakers. La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation places animals with people, according to the official website. In 1991, Tony and Elaine La Russa came up with an idea to enhance people’s lives by strengthening the bond between humans and animals.
According to KBIA, La Russa reached a milestone, becoming a candidate for the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014. In his recent Hall of Fame speech, former Cardinals manager Tony La Russa saluted his colleagues in all three ball clubs.
Perhaps, La Russa would be offering the same salute to the volunteers and corporate sponsors who make ARF such a successful charity. A photo of his autographed Hall of Fame baseball is on the company website.
ARF’s mission is to save dogs and cats that would not be spared at a public shelter. The organization has assisted with over 25,000 adoptions, including Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, according to their Facebook page. The organization also assists in training pets, and helping people choose from a list of adoptable pets.
