The Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus announced on Tuesday that Cleveland managed to top Dallas to be the site of the 2016 Republican National Convention.

"In the end it's Cleveland, Ohio," said Priebus, according to ABC News. "As goes Ohio, so does the presidential race."

The convention, which also had Denver, Las Vegas and other cities at one point vying for selection, will likely begin either June 28 or July 18, Priebus has said.

The plan is for the convention to be held earlier than normal, but since it would be hosted at the Quicken Loans Arena, there is a small chance it could conflict with the NBA playoffs, but then again it is Cleveland, so no real worries.

Still, sources say that there has already been talks on that and Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert would be willing to have games played elsewhere.

According to NBC News, while the RNC has made up its mind, the Democratic National Committee says it is no rush to select a host city and likely won't make a decision until early 2015. There are five cities who submitted bids to be chosen, including Brooklyn, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Birmingham and Columbus.

Technically there are six, since Cleveland is also in the running, but there's little chance it gets selected to host both.
