The CW took the stage at the TV Critics Association press tour on Friday and that means we got to hear news about that other anticipated DC Comics pilot, The Flash. Considering that the series was born from the already-popular Arrow, there were some questions about whether the two shows would crossover often.
CW chief Mark Pedowitz said that Flash and Arrow are obviously set in the same universe, so characters will often see screentime in both shows.
“You will see — organically — characters shifting over, villains shifting over back and forth between Flash and Arrow,” Pedowtiz said, notes Variety. “We will be introducing more villains that are part of the DC Comics universe.”
However, if you think Arrow, The Flash and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice are linked, DC chief creative officer Geoff Johns has some disappointing news for you.
“At DC, we really see film and TV as separate worlds,” Johns told reporters, reports TheWrap.
The Flash executive producer Greg Berlanti didn’t sound disappointed though. “We don't really see a difference between film and TV. We see storytelling and characters and the opportunity,” he said. “We'll have, between the two shows ... this year, I think we'll have half the Justice League on our shows.”
Berlanti also announced that Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) is joining Flash as the villain Captain Cold.
Of course, Flash isn't the only DC series hitting TV this fall. Fox has Gotham and NBC has Constantine.
According to Variety, Pedowitz also touched on Supernatural, a show that has been on so long that it pre-dates The CW. Despite its longevity, it hasn’t produced a spin-off, no matter how much Pedowitz still wants one. The most recent attempt, Bloodlines, didn’t get picked up. Pedowtiz again said that he’d still like to see a spinoff happen.
“Creatively it did not quite get where we wanted it to go,” he said of Bloodlines. “We have told (the creators) that we are very open to doing another spinoff. I would love to get a Supernatural spinoff done.”
