Here are your headlines in the world of sports on this Thursday, July 3rd, 2014:
Carmelo Anthony visits Lakers:
As the race for Carmelo Anthony heats up, the Los Angeles Lakers now feel the pressure after the glamorous performance put on by the Houston Rockets. Carmelo Anthony met with the Lakers today, and will meet with the New York Knicks in L.A., later tonight, according to CBSSports.com.
I mean how can a team show any more love than the Rockets just displayed? Kicking a current player, in Jeremy Lin, out of the door at the same time a free agent is visiting. Houston displayed pictures at nauseam in and around the Toyota Center of Anthony wearing a Rockets jersey with his usual #7, currently worn by one Jeremy Lin. Whether the Anthony-Lin controversy is in New York or Houston, Lin just cannot shake this guy.
“The formula to a championship” was the slogan used to catch Anthony’s eye.
The Lakers will have their work cut out for them as they do not have the current roster to compete with Dwight Howard and James Harden. They do however have the cap space to acquire Anthony’s services. The New York Knicks still remain the front runners through as they can offer Anthony the most money, $129 million over five years. It is expected that Anthony will wait until after the weekend to make his decision.
Dirk Nowitzki sings extension with Mavericks:
Dirk Nowitzki is the Dallas Mavericks, and now can safely say he will finish his career there, aside from an unforeseen incident. Today, href= http://thecelebritycafe.com/feature/2014/07/dirk-nowitzki-and-mavericks-agree-new-three-year-deal>Nowitzki and the Mavs agreed to a three-year extension worth $30 million, according to href= http://espn.go.com/dallas/nba/story/_/id/11173897/dirk-nowitzki-agrees-new-three-year-deal-dallas-mavericks>ESPN.com. The extension also includes a player-option in 2016 and a no-trade clause.
The 36-year-old has played his entire 16-year career in Dallas, including winning the 2011 NBA Championship by disposing LeBron James and the Miami Heat in six-games.
Alex Rodriguez back in the news:
He's back. What's a good sports day without an Alex Rodriguez story?
So after all of the fighting that Alex Rodriguez and his all-star cast of lawyers did to reverse the 162-game suspension handed down by Bud Selig last season, it seems he did take some illegal substances. For all of the pure egotistical denials made by Rodriguez, today it’s been reported that he indeed did take testosterone in 2007, but claims he had an “exemption” from MLB.
