The Hollywood Reporter added that pre-tracking for the film has the potential to reach over $60 million at the box office this weekend.
The remake of Planet of the Apes was released back in August of 2011 and it made $54 million at the box office during its opening weekend.
Forbes added that even though the $4.1 million might look smaller compared to films like Godzilla and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a few reasons might need to be considered for the short fall at the box office. Dawn is not being released in IMAX, unlike the other popular summer films.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes stars Andy Serkis playing the main role of Caesar in the film and he stars along side Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman and Keri Russell. Dawn was directed by Matt Reeves.
The film is already receiving critical acclaim and Oscar buzz for Serkis.
