Elle Fanning, who just starred in Maleficent with Angelina Jolie, has been cast to play Frankenstein author Mary Shelley in A Storm in the Stars. The actress had a busy week, as she also got a role in All The Bright Places.
Up first is A Storm in the Stars. According to The Hollywood Reporter, which confirmed her casting on Wednesday, Fanning will play Shelley for director Haifaa Al-Mansour and writer Emma Jensen. It tells the story about her relationship with poet Percy Shelley, who would become her husband. To make the period piece interesting, it will focus on how Shelley was a rare woman for her time, with a full education.
Shooting on A Storm in the Stars will begin next year.
On Thursday, Variety reported that Fanning will star in All The Bright Places, a film adaptation of a young adult novel that hasn’t even hit bookstores yet. Alfred A. Knopf is publishing the book on Jan. 6, 2015. Paula Mazur and Mitchell Kaplan picked up the screen rights and got Fanning attached to the project.
The book, by Jennifer Niven, centers on the love story between a boy who wants to die and a girl who is learning how to live. They fall in love and decide that now is the time to live life to the fullest.
Fanning, 16, is the younger sister of Dakota Fanning and was last seen in Maleficent. Her credits also include Super 8 and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
