Emmy award-winning actress Rosemary Murphy, best known as Miss Maudie in the 1962 film To Kill a Mockingbird, passed away on Saturday at the age of 89.

Her death was confirmed by her agent, Alan Willig, who said she was at her New York City Upper East Side apartment when she passed, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She had been recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer.

While appearing in the film adaptation of Harper Lee's iconic book, Murphy also appeared in plays and on television. She has been nominated for Tony awards and won her Emmy playing Franklin Delano Roosevelt's mother in the ABC miniseries Eleanor and Franklin in 1976.

Murphy was nominated for best actress in a play in Period of Adjustment, Any Wednesday and A Delicate Balance.

Variety reports that she had a fruitful and long-lasting film career, appearing alongside Meryl Streep in the 1977 film Julia. She also appeared in several movies over the past decade, including the 2010 film The Romantics, the 2009 film After Life, 2008's Synecdoche, New York and the 2007 film The Savages.

Robert Duvall, since Murphy's passing, appears to be the only living adult castmember of To Kill a Mockingbird.
