Uraguay player Luis Suarez’s appeal against his ban for biting an opponent has been rejected by the International Federation of Association Football.
ESPN noted that FIFA said on Thursday that it would not lift the ban imposed after Suarez’s biting incident in a match against Italy last month.
As previously reported, with the game tied at 0-0 and 10 minutes left, the forward bit down on Giorgio Chiellini’s shoulder before they both fell to the ground.
In an effort to possibly make the bite look accidental, Suarez cupped his mouth as he laid on the pitch. The video evidence, however, showed otherwise and he received a ban from any football-related activities for four months, including nine international matches. Suarez was also fined 100,000 Swiss francs ($112,000 U.S.).
It was not the Uruguayan footballer’s first time biting someone or even his second.
In 2010, he sunk his teeth into an opposing player’s neck when he was with the Dutch club Ajax. Then in 2013, he bit opponent Branislav Ivanovic of Chelsea.
The controversial Suarez was also suspended prior to the 2014 World Cup for derogatory racial remarks he made toward another player.
