Hundreds of people stopped by the Boyle Heights warehouse in Los Angeles on Saturday, July 5 to purchase local fruit, vegetables, baked good and marijuana. It was the first time a Marijuana Farmers Market had taken place in L.A., and it won’t be the last.
The L.A. Times reported that the goal of this market is to cut out the middle man. If customers go to dispensaries, they’re not just paying for marijuana they pay for rent costs and employee costs. When consumers go to the market they can buy directly from growers, cutting the prices and informing the buyers of what they should be looking for with their conditions.
Although the market seems like quite the place to be according to ABC News customers must have a medical marijuana recommendations, which is checked at the door, to enter. Customers who attended the market had different skin conditions, surgery complications and even cancer. Rachel Hartje, a customer at the market, has been living with breast cancer which recently went into remission. She told reporters that, “Every little bit helps.”
