Five people were injured after a hot air balloon in Massachusetts was involved in a fiery crash on Saturday and the scary incident was captured on video.
WTVY reported that the Federal Aviation Administration is still investigating the cause of the crash that left five of the balloon’s six occupants suffering from burns.
The operator of the balloon called “Raspberry Ripple,” hit some power lines as he tried to land the balloon just after 7:30 p.m. The unexpected incident set off a series of explosions that horrified onlookers and injured those on board.
The accident happened in the town of Clinton, which is about 50 miles west of Boston.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time a hot air balloon had an accident of this nature. ABC News noted that NFL free-agent wide receiver Donte Stallworth and a friend suffered serious burns last year after a hot air balloon they were on struck some power lines.
“I saw we were getting really close to the power lines,” Stallworth said after the incident. “When I realized we were gonna hit, it was too late.”
This is also not the first time that this same exact hot air balloon has had trouble landing. Raspberry Ripple has had two prior incidents which occurred in 2012 and 2010, where the balloon either got stuck or landed where it wasn't supposed to. Luckily, no one was hurt in those incidents.
