Florida police department hired two KKK members

Two police officers previously with the Fruitland Park Police Department were allegedly identified as members of the Ku Klux Klan.

According to WFTV, the police department received evidence from an FBI investigation which identified Deputy Police Chief David Borst and Cpl. George Hunnewell as possible Klan members.

Amid the allegations, Borst resigned from the force and Hunnewell was dismissed last week.

Since it is not technically illegal for either man to be associated with the Klan, the case was handed over to Police Chief Terry Isaacs, who was reportedly appalled by the alleged findings.

Before Isaacs could put Borst on administrative leave, he abruptly resigned. The department stressed that Borst voluntarily resigned. The Associated Press noted that he was a 20-year veteran officer, who mainly handled administrative duties and was not on the streets much.

Hunnewell, meanwhile, was let go over past performance-related issues.

Five years ago, another former Fruitland Park officer resigned after an internal investigation revealed that he was high-ranking Klansman.
