Sinister 2 will creep into theaters on Aug. 21, 2015.
According to Variety, Citadel’s Ciaran Foy is directing the film while Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill are taking on writing duties. Derrickson, who directed the first Sinster, will also produce along with Jason Blum.
The first film was hugely successful, bringing in approximately $87 million against a $3 million budget. The story focused on a true-crime writer, played by Ethan Hawke, who moves his family into the site of a murder. After he discovers a box of Super 8 videotapes in the attic, his family is put in danger by a mysterious presence.
No casting announcements have been made, so it’s unknown if Hawke will reprise his role. The actor recently starred in Richard Linklater’s Boyhood.
Regardless of casting, the film is ramping up production in a hurry. JoBlo reported that filming will begin in Chicago in August.
Sinister 2 will go up against Warner Bros.’ Me Before You, Deadline noted.
