Dan Uggla, the former Atlanta Braves second baseman, has signed a minor-league deal with the San Francisco Giants and will report to Triple-A Fresno.
Uggla was released by the Braves last week, as previously reported.
The Braves still owe Uggla $18.5 million for the next two years combined, according to SB Nation.
The Giants will only have to pay Uggla the prorated league minimum if he returns to the big leagues, according to CBS Sports.
Uggla can opt-out of his contract on Aug. 1 if the Giants do not call him up to the majors.
Uggla was in his fourth season with the Braves and was batting a dismal .162 in 130 at-bats in 48 games, according to ESPN.com.
His downfall started last year after he had corrective eye surgery during the summer. His average was .179, but had 22 homeruns and 55 RBIs. The Braves even left him off their postseason roster, instead opting for journeyman second baseman Elliot Johnson.
Uggla has been an NL All-Star three times. His best season was in 2011 when he hit 36 home runs and had a 33-game hitting streak, which is the second longest in the teams history.
