Four NATO troops among 16 killed in eastern Afghanistan attack

At least four NATO troops are among the 16 who were killed in a suicide attack in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday.

CNN reported that the Czech Defense Ministry said the four service members killed were all Czech nationals. Ten civilians and two Afghan police officers were also killed in the blast.

According to Reuters, Ziaul Rahman Sayedkhili, a senior police officer in the eastern province of Parwan, offered details about the attack near Kabul.

“Two days ago a rocket was fired from the village of Qalandar Khil which hit the Bagram (military) base and this morning a joint Afghan-ISAF operation went there to investigate the case,” he said. “There was a suicide bomber on a bicycle who detonated his explosives.”

Sayedkhili originally put the soldiers’ death toll at six, but that figure was later changed to four.

The Czech servicemen were reportedly on patrol at the base when the bomb went off.

The Taliban has since claimed responsibility for the attack.
