G.I. Joe 3 is moving ahead at Paramount, and the studio announced today that they’ve hired a new screenwriter to take on the project.
According to Variety, the newest installment in the franchise will be written by Jonathan Lemkin. Lemkin is known for writing the Mark Wahlberg film Shooter, as well as his work on television, writing for Hill Street Blues, 21 Jump Street, and Beverly Hills 90210. He also wrote the screenplay for Lethal Weapon 4.
The majority of the cast from G.I Joe: Retaliation is expected to return. Though no official plot synopsis has been released, Variety reports that G.I Joe 3 will revolve mainly around Roadblock, the character played by Dwayne Johnson and introduced in the second film.
Though the cast is expected to return, Retaliation director John Chu will likely not direct the film, as he is currently attached to Jem and the Holograms, according to Slashfilm.
G.I Joe 3 is expected to begin production in 2015 and be released sometime in 2016.
