Considering Game of Thrones’ season four slogan was “All men must die,” it makes sense that death would be a major topic at the show’s Comic-Con panel Friday afternoon. HBO also took the time to announce several new cast members, because George R.R. Martin and crew can never have enough characters to kill off.
Martin, who wrote the A Song of Ice and Fire books that the show is based on, was at the convention, along with showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Reuters reports that actors Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, Pedro Pascal and Maisie Williams were also there. Pascal’s character was already killed off in season four, but his Prince Oberyn is still going to play a role in the next season.
As previously reported, many of the new cast members are playing members of Oberyn’s family. Alexander Siddig is playing his brother, Lord Doran Martell. Toby Sebastian plays Doran’s son. Nell Tiger Free, DeObia Oparei, Jessica Henwick, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Enzo Cilento and Jonathan Pryce are also joining the show.
During the panel, Williams, who plays young Arya Stark, admitted that some members of the cast do know their characters’ fates based on the books, but aren’t sure what Benioff and Weiss have planned. “...I know David and Dan (Weiss) have killed characters still alive in books and vice versa, so I just suck up to David and Dan,” she said.
“The key for the actors is to never ask for a raise,” Martin joked.
Rose Leslie and Rory McCann were also on hand to chat with fans about how their characters died this season.
To help liven up the discussion, the cast and crew showed off a blooper reel, notes EW. Clearly, with all that heavy drama weighing down the residents of Westeros, you have to find some opportunity to get a laugh in.
