Garth Brooks confirmed on Monday that even last-minute talks couldn't save the five planned shows in Dublin's Croke Park and said refunds will begin to go out.
The shows were all canceled back on July 8 after the Dublin City Council refused to license the last two of the five shows.
The shows were set to be played at Croke Park on July 25-29, and the country singer refused to play only the three approved shows, believing it would be unfair for the nearly 150,000 fans who bought tickets for the 28th and 29th shows.
Still, not all hope was completely dashed as talks were held in an attempt to find some way to still have Brooks play, but the city council was unable to alter their previous decision. "To say I am crushed is an understatement," Brooks said in a statement.
"All I see if my mother's face and I hear her voice. She always said things happen for a reason and for the right reason," he added. "As hard as I try, i cannot see the light on this one."
With all hopes officially dashed, Brooks noted that Ticketmaster will begin to process refunds to the hundreds of thousands who bought tickets.
Last week, Brooks also announced plans to release new album Garth, with a tentative release date set for around Thanksgiving.
