Country music legend Garth Brooks caused a major controversy in Ireland when he cancelled all of his planned Dublin shows and some fans are finally getting their money back on the weekend he was supposed to play.
Ticketmaster confirmed to the Irish Independent that 330,000 tickets are being refunded, although 400,000 total tickets were sold.
Brooks was supposed to play five nights at Croke Park, beginning last night. However, by some strange error, the Dublin City Council only approved three of the shows and suggested that Brooks play two matinee shows. While even Irish politicians were up in arms over the dispute, Brooks decided to not play any of the shows.
Fans were left crushed, as well as the city of Dublin. According to The Guardian, the shows could have pumped as much as €50 million into the city economy. Now, hotel rooms will be left empty and restaurants will be losing business over the weekend.
Brooks has been back in the news in recent months, as he’s planning a new album for the fall and is going to be posting his music online. He is also planning a world tour and announced new shows in Chicago on his website. He will play several dates at Allstate Arena from Sept. 4 through Sept. 14.
