Glenn Ficarra and John Requa established themselves for years as screenwriters, with films like Bad Santa and shows like The Angry Beavers on their resumes. But it was with their jump behind the camera with I Love You Philip Morris and Crazy Stupid Love that they were able to equal credit themselves as directors.
Now that they have signed on to direct Taliban Shuffle with Tina Fey starring, it doesn't appear that they will be slowing down anytime soon.
The Hollywood Reporter reported the recent development on the project, which has a screenplay by 30 Rock writer Robert Carlock, based on a memoir by journalist Kim Barker. Set up at Paramount, the film has Fey and SNL's Lorne Michaels producing and will be centered on Baker's fish-out-of-water arrival to Kabul, and dealing with this new culture as a reporter and a woman.
Ficarra and Requa have just finished work on their third film as a director, Focus, which stars Will Smith and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) and is set to hit theaters on February 27, 2015. Fey, meanwhile, was last seen in Muppets Most Wanted and will be seen in This is Where I Leave You later this year. She is currently filming The Nest with Amy Poehler.
