While Marvel fans would really like to see The Hulk given a greater role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it will still be a long time before that happens. We already know that the Planet Hulk comics aren’t going to hit the big screen and now we know that there’s no truth to the rumors that the Hulk will have a role in Guardians of the Galaxy.
In an interview with The Playlist, Guardians director James Gunn said bluntly that these rumors are “bulls**t.”
“I can answer that question very easily: it is absolute, 100% bulls**t,” Gunn told the site. “It feels like a great relief to finally say this after all the dumb stuff on the Internet.”
Gunn seemed to take it personal that HitFix reported that The Hulk would have a link to Guardians. When The Playlist told the director that they would use the “bulls**t” comment in their headline, he told him that it’s “fine. I love it. I'm so sick of it.”
“There's not going to be a Planet Hulk movie, there was never going to be a Planet Hulk movie, there was never a plan for the Hulk to team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy – I wouldn't want the Hulk to team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy!” Gunn added. “And it's all a bunch of complete bulls**t.”
Last year, Avengers writer/director Joss Whedon said that Planet Hulk will not be turned into a film and admitted that making a movie centered on just the Hulk would be hard. After all, if Ang Lee couldn’t do it, it must be difficult.
Planet Hulk was a storyline that featured The Hulk banished to another world that he eventually ruled over. It may never make it to the live action Marvel world, but it did get an animated film.
Guardians opens on Aug. 1.
