Among the seemingly numerous projects in writer/director Guillermo Del Toro's line-up, apparently one of them is, unfortunately, not Hellboy 3. In a AMA on Reddit, director Guillermo Del Toro revealed that a new Hellboy movie was not in his foreseeable future.

When interacting in a recent AMA on Reddit, promoting the new series, The Strain, the book which he wrote the source material for and the series that he services as a director of some episodes, that a new Hellboy movie is probably not in the cards, at least as far as he is concerned. This are his exact words.

"It’s very unlikely it’ll happen because you need things to converge so strongly," he said. "[Producer] Larry Gordon, Universal, the rights, Ron [Perlman’s] and mine’s availability, [comic creator] Mike [Mingola’s] blessing; we have pieces of that, but we don’t have all of that. You need so many things to confluence and then you need about $150 million."

He didn't stop there on the topic, however, as he discussed his thoughts on what he thought should be the end on the series.

"The idea for it was to have Hellboy finally come to terms with the fact that his destiny, his inevitable destiny, is to become the beast of the Apocalypse,” he said. “And having him and Liz face the sort of, that part of his nature, and he has to do it, in order to be able to ironically vanquish the foe that he has to face in the 3rd film. He has to become the best of the Apocalypse to be able to defend humanity, but at the same time he becomes a much darker being.

"It’s a very interesting ending to the series, but I don’t think it will happen," were his final words on the topic.

Considering that, economically, both Hellboy 1 & 2 didn't really crack $100 worldwide, it does make sense that Del Toro would not be willing to make a third one, at least domestically (in terms of box office). Still, it is a shame for fans to hear such news. Regardless, Del Toro still has more than a few projects on the way. Including finishing his next movie, Crimson Peak, set to hit theaters October 16, 2015. As well as a newly announced black and white movie and then a sequel to last year's Pacific Rim, which is scheduled to hit theaters in 2017.

Even if he doesn't make a new Hellboy movie, Del Toro will still have more movies on the way.
