Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton claimed on Friday that all speaking fees she earned from various universities were donated to her family's foundation, the Clinton Foundation.
Clinton spoke with ABC News' Ann Compton in an attempt to explain the speaking fees.
"All of the fees have been donated to the Clinton Foundation for it to continue its life-changing and life-saving work," she said. "So it goes from a foundation at a university to another foundation."
Compton asked about the request to donate her speaking fees by University of Nevada-Las Vegas students, but Clinton didn't give a firm answer instead noting, "It's been my experience that they're not worried about my speaking or my household, they're worried about their own."
Clinton added, "And that's the kind of debate I think I'm furthering as I go around the country speaking."
Last week Clinton was criticized by students at the UNLV because the school is going to pay her $225,000 to speak. They felt that was way too much for her to earn while UNLV is currently raising tuition 17 percent over a four-year period.
Daniel Waqar, UNLV student government spokesman, said that she should donate the money back to the school for students' scholarships as a gesture.
A university spokesperson came forward to note that the money was not from the school itself, but rather "private donations."
The discovery of the high speaking fee came as people, mostly political opponents, began to loudly wonder if she truly understood real voters after insisting her family left the White House "dead broke," despite being able to afford two houses.
