Ah the 4th of July. An important day for Americans everywhere, filled with fireworks, hot dogs, and red, white and blue. For competitive eater Joey Chestnut, the day just became a little more special, as he became engaged to his girlfriend at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest on Coney Island.

Every year thousands of competitive eating fans converge on Coney Island to watch their favorite contenders attempt to eat as many hot dogs as possible in 10 minutes. Chestnut has won the competition seven times and last year he set the world record, eating an amazing 69 hot dogs in 10 minutes as recorded by TheCelebrityCafe.com .

This year, an hour before the annual competition, Chestnut proposed to his girlfriend while on stage and she said yes according to ABC News.

Chestnut defending of his honor and the rest of the competition are aired live on ESPN with a rerun shown later on ESPN2 as reported by USA today.
