Even before his latest movie has hit theaters, James Gunn has found enormous success with his Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy. With that, it appears that he wants to keep a good thing going, as he will write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

As The Wrap reported, Gunn is going to return to his writing and directing duties for the sequel. This wasn't much of a surprise, as Gunn has said on several occasions that he would love to come back to these characters and this world. The movie's overwhelmingly positive response meant that people would be wanting more from the filmmaker's madcap vision.

But it was talking with Screenrant, he got a little more specific about his desire to make another visit to these oddball characters. He said the following.

"I’m actually in a somewhat weird position because if the movie does well, then I’m gonna make the sequel," Gunn confessed. "And if it does okay then, well, I’ve already been offered other movies but I can only do those other movies if I don’t do the sequel, so it’s a weird situation."

Anyone who follows Gunn's Twitter or just have heard his comments of late would know that Gunn is more outspoken than his peers, and doesn't like to blow hot air just for the sake of making his fans happy. With that, while not completely official, it is very, very likely that Gunn will be back in the director's chair if Marvel's gives the greenlight for Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Of course, with Comic-Con happening now, don't be surprise to hear more about Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 very, very soon.

Guardians of the Galaxy will be flying into theaters on August 1. To hear what critics are saying, just look here.
