A 5-year-old girl who was kidnapped died in a shootout during a high speed chase on Friday.

According to the Huffington Post, Cadence Harris was abducted by suspect Marcus McGowan earlier Friday.

McGowan reportedly abducted Harris from an unknown location and led police on a high speed chase that ended in Missouri.

The chase ended in a secluded area when McGowan drove into a construction zone and could not find his way out. The shootout began when the suspect allegedly fired on police.

It was initially reported that the suspected killed Harris by shooting her.

Harris died from a gunshot wound, but the source of the wound has not yet been determined.

McGowan suffered gunshot wounds, and is in serious but stable condition at a hospital.

Harris and McGowan reportedly knew each other, reported KCTV.

Family members said the mother of Harris, Christina Harris, was dating McGowan, and that the pair lived together.

The incident was a shock to both family members and friends of McGowan who knew him as a man who was like a father to Harris.

“I’ve never seen him act like this before,” said Ricky Lee, who knew the suspect. “It was a complete mind blow.”
