A new potato chip flavor inspired by salsa is something we can understand, but a flavor inspired by cappuccino? It could happen. Lay’s announced the finalists for another round of its “Do Us A Flavor” promotion, which includes Mango Salsa and Cappuccino flavors.
The other two flavors are Cheddar Bacon Mac & Cheese (because we need to have bacon in everything) and Wasabi Ginger. They will be in stores on July 28, when voting begins on DoUsAFlavor.com.
The winning flavors were unveiled on Good Morning America. Ph.D. student Chad Scott was there to explain how he came up with the Cappuccino flavor.
“The inspiration on this is just a love of coffee,” he told GMA. “When a cappuccino is good enough, it puts a punctuation point on my day.”
The chips won’t actually have caffeine, though. Instead, they just emulate the flavor of coffee, in case that’s something you want from a potato chip.
The mac & cheese flavor was created by a firefighter, while Meneko Spigner McBeth was inspired by her grandmother to come up with Wasabi Ginger. Julia Stanley-Metz is behind the Mango Salsa flavor, which uses Wavy Chips.
After voting ends in November, the winner will receive $1 million.
