Liverpool has agreed to transfer star Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez to Barcelona FC.
Suarez, who was kicked out of the World Cup for biting an opponent, as we previously reported, was the English Premier League’s leading scorer last season with 31 goals, according to Reuters.
Barcelona will pay Liverpool a transfer fee of 81 million euros, which would be the third most expensive transfer fee ever paid for a player following Real Madrid’s signings of Gareth Bale for 100 million euros in 2013 and Cristiano Ronaldo 94 million euros in 2009.
In a statement, Suarez thanked his fans and the team for great memories and asked fans to try to understand why he decided go to Barcelona.
Suarez will not be able to play or practice with Barcelona until the end of October, when his for month suspension is over.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said in a statement, that the club had tried to persuade Suarez to stay at Liverpool.
“The club have done all they can over a sustained period of time to try to keep Luis at Liverpool. It is with great reluctance and following lengthy discussions we have eventually agreed to his wishes to move to Spain for new experiences and challenges.”
