If Jennifer Lawrence is the face of Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games franchise, then New Zealand singer Lorde is becoming the sound. After contributing a track for Catching Fire, Lorde and the studio announced that she will have an even bigger role for the Mockingjay - Part 1 soundtrack.
The “Royals” singer tweeted Thursday that she will be the “sole curator” for the soundtrack, which means that she will get to pick the artists and the songs audiences will hear during the movie. According to USA Today, she will also write the first single from the album.
“Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance,” Lorde said. “The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people.”
Catching Fire featured Lorde’s version of the Tears For Fears classic “Everybody Wants To Rule The World.” The soundtrack for the second film in the franchise also featured contributions from Christina Aguilera, Coldplay and The National. Coldplay got the album’s lead single with “Atlas.”
The lead single for the first Hunger Games film was the Grammy winning track “Safe and Sound” by Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars.
Mockingjay - Part 1 opens on Nov. 21.
