An inmate at a Missouri prison escaped Friday night during a Fourth of July fireworks show.
According to KYTV-TV, accused killer Jason McClurg was led outside with nine other inmates from the Shannon County Jail to see the fireworks display when he escaped.
The New York Post noted that the 32-year-old from Winona, was charged in May with the first-degree murder of his wife, Stephanie.
Authorities said McClurg tried to kill her by mixing a prescription medicine with Kool-Aid. When the first attempt did not work, he tried again the following day and succeeded. McClurg allegedly got her to drink the tainted beverage by telling her it was specially made for her by their two-year-old child.
He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing next month.
It is unclear at this time if McClurg was in restraints when he fled.
Police said he is considered dangerous. He is listed at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds with blond hair, brown eyes and tattoos. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact authorities.
