After news swirled earlier in the day that James Gunn would be directing a sequel to the not-yet released Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel made an official announcement with the help of Gunn and star Chris Pratt.

Gunn and Pratt confirmed in a video at Comic-Con, since they are currently in London, that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 had already been greenlit and one of the mystery movie release dates is now filled, E! News reports.

The sequel is currently set for the July 28, 2017 date.

The news isn't too surprising as GOTG co-writer Nicole Perlman revealed to TheWrap that a sequel was all but guaranteed and that Gunn, who has expressed some weariness to working on such a time consuming project, would return to both direct and write.

"Of course they would want to make a sequel as long as [GOTG] does well and people are excited about it; they'll wanna do a sequel. So, it's going to happen."

While willing to speak on everyone else's behalf, Perlman would not confirm whether she too would be returning to help with writing duties.

The first film, which has already started receiving plenty of positive reviews, is due out next weekend. In addition to Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper also star.
