Now considered the new 'hero' of the Type 1 diabetes community, Sierra Sandison, also known as Miss Idaho, has been propelled into fame because of her choice to wear her insulin pump alongside her bikini in a swimsuit competition. Now, Miss Idaho is spreading the confidence like a wildfire through social media and her actions.
According to NPR, Type 1 Diabetes is typically controled with regulated insulin shots or, as shown by Miss Idaho, an insulin pump. It is a personal choice to use one, but since posting a photo on Facebook of the pump attached to the side of her bikini, Sandison has received thousands of positive replies thanking her for showing confidence.
The picture has recieved almost 6,000 'likes' and been shared over 3,000 times, reports The Toronto Sun. Wearing medical devices with confidence is becoming more and more common in society as time passes, and many are expressing interest in coming together in confidence.
