To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Beastie Boys' landmark album Paul's Boutique, the album will be honored with a mural on the Brooklyn intersection housing the store after which the album was named.
According to MTV, the project was led by longtime Beastie Boys fan LeRoy McCarthy. Muralist Danielle Mastrion began the project on Saturday and took photos of her progress, which she posted on Instagram.
This is not the first time that Brooklyn has paid homage to the rap trio. In May 2013, nearly a year to the day after the death of Beastie Boys member Adam "MCA" Yauch of cancer, Brooklyn Heights' Palmetto Park was renamed after him becoming the Adam Yauch Playground. A month before Yauch's death, the Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The Beastie Boys will also soon be immortalized in print as surviving members Michael "Mike D" Diamond and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz are currently writing a memoir that is set to be released next year.
Paul's Boutique was released on July 25 1989 the second Beastie Boys album after their chart-topping debut License to Ill. The album fared well peaking at No. 14 on the Billboard 200 chart and, according to Billboard, critical response to the album has improved since its release.
