A new trailer for Unbroken, Angelina Jolie’s film adaptation of the hit Laura Hillenbrand novel, has hit the web. The film is based on the true story of World War II hero Louis Zamperini, who died last week at age 97.
The second trailer runs just over two and a half minutes and shows how Jolie traces Zamperini’s story. She begins with him as a young athlete, training to compete in the 1936 Summer Olympics and then heading off to war. Zamperini was captured by the Japanese after floating in the Pacific Ocean for nearly 50 days. He was presumed dead until the war ended and he returned home.
Even before Jolie began her project, Hillebrand’s book was a bestseller. But after he died last week, USA Today notes that it shot up its bestseller list, reaching No. 7. The book has already sold 4 million copies and will probably sell more when the movie tie-in edition comes out in the fall. A paperback edition will be out at the end of this month.
“It is a loss impossible to describe. We are all so grateful for how enriched our lives are for having known him. We will miss him terribly,” Jolie said in a statement released by Universal last week. Jack O’Connell, who recently appeared in 300: Rise of an Empire, plays Zamperini.
