Nick Jones is back and released his new solo single, “Chains.” This time around, there is no Jonas Brothers or The Administration to back him up; it’s just the 21- year old trying to find is own route to success in the music world.
Jonas released the song “Chains” to Complex. It’s has an edgier sound than the music he put out with his brothers and his band. It’s dark undertones resembles The Weeknd’s “Wicked Games.”
Jonas explained to Complex the message behind the song. “Everyone has their own chains, in life and in love, that bind them and this song embodies that feeling,” he told them. “I’m excited to be back to share this song with the world.”
Jonas not only provides soaring vocals, but he also gives good songwriting. In the chorus, he plays off the words chains and change. “You got me in Chains/you got me in chains/for your love/ but I wouldn’t change,” he sings in the chorus.
Jonas is claiming his emancipation from the Disney Channel just like fellow former Disney and Nickelodeon stars Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato and Dylan Sprouse have been doing lately. It’s urban and more suggestive sound welcomes a brand new audience into Nick Jonas already established fan base. He also mentioned that it will be matched with a ‘racy’ music video.
Early in his career, Nick-along with his brothers, presented Christian image and even wore purity rings. According to Page Six, an unnamed source came forward and said that Jonas’ upcoming project will be all him as he shades the image that he felt people created for him. "Nick has spent years experiencing a burden that's hard to explain," the source told Page Six, "He feels free now for the first time in his life. He's making music he believes in,” he shared. The source also told Page Six "He's done saying sorry for everything and trying to be perfect. He's just going to be himself; if people like him, great, if not, he's done giving a s**t."
