Nicki Minaj sent the internet world into frenzy after her passionate acceptance speech on Sunday. Was her dance to “Fancy’ mockery? Does Iggy write her own verses? Does Nicki and Iggy have beef?
The “Pills N’ Potions” star took to Twitter, to set the record straight.
As previously reported, Nicki Minaj was accused of dissing Iggy Azalea during her acceptance speech for Best Female Hip Hop Artist at the 2014 BET Awards last Sunday. However, Minaj is now speaking out saying that it wasn’t a dig at all, but words of encouragement for other female rappers.
She sent out the following tweets.
The media puts words in my mouth all the time and this is no different. I will always take a stance on women writing b/c I believe in us!

I believe we're smart enough to write down our own thoughts and perspective, just like the men do. I've been saying this for 5 YEARS

I fell in love with Lauryn Hill b/c I knew she was the author behind those amazingly profound and articulated songs on the MisEducation

I wondered how Lauryn tapped into my brain and wrote an album on love, betrayal, passion, pain, triumph, brokenness.... Did she read minds?

It's the same reason I have a different level of respect for Missy. I know she's a writer and a producer. Women MUST aspire for more.

That will never change my desire to motivate women to write. Our voices have to be heard. I hope I inspire up & coming females to do that.

Iggy has yet to speak on the Bet Awards speech or Minaj’s twitter explanation, but she did congratulate all of the winners that night.
Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” has become the longest running #1 single by a female rapper in history. Minaj has yet to score a number one single but has reached a peak of #3 with “Superbass.” Minaj has attained two number one selling albums and a number of top ten singles. Iggy’s debut album The New Classic crowned the rap charts and peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200.
