Authorities said that at least 19 people are dead and about another 150 were injured after subway cars in Moscow derailed on Tuesday morning.

According to the Associated Press, the derailment happened during the morning rush-hour commute and some of the injured are reportedly in very serious condition.

The derailment occurred between the city’s Slaviansky Boulevard and Park Pobedy stations.

FOX News reported that a power surge set off an emergency alarm which caused the train to come to a screeching halt and sent several cars off the track.

During a chaotic scene, rescuers located bodies of the deceased in the cars and carried the badly injured away to be transported to local hospitals.

Officials also worked to evacuate passengers from the wrecked cars.

Russia’s investigative committee has been looking into and trying to determine the exact cause of the accident to see if faulty trains could have also played a part. Terrorism is not thought to have played a role.
