Nissan is recalling over 226,000 sold cars due to faulty airbags.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced Saturday that a number of Infiniti, Maxima, Pathfinder, and Sentra models from 2002 to 2004 will be recalled, as reported by the Associated Press.

The problem with the airbags is that the inflators can break during an accident, resulting in metal debris that may be dangerous to passengers. This has been the cause of several previous recalls, including those of BMW, Chrysler, Honda, Ford, and Toyota.

Takata, a Japanese supplier of car parts, is responsible for the manufacturing of these faulty airbags. But, Brian Brockman, a Nissan representative, reported that there have been no accidents linked to the airbags, to the company’s knowledge.

Beginning on August 11, car dealers will be replacing the defective airbags for free as a preventative measure, according to the Daily Digest. Owners of affected models will be informed of the recall.
Nissan had another recent recall in March on over 400,000 cars.
