Northwest lakes closed to swimmers after norovirus scare

Two parks and lakes in the Northwest were closed after some visitors reported norovirus-like symptoms between Thursday and Sunday.

According to KOIN6, Blue Lake Regional Park in Oregon closed on Monday after two families reported suffering from norovirus symptoms.

In addition, the Associated Press noted that officials in Washington closed Horseshoe Lake County Park to investigate a possible norovirus outbreak after several swimmers fell ill.

The stomach bug is the same that sickened hundreds of cruise ship passengers back in February.

The most common symptoms associated with the virus are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Weakness, muscle aches, headache, loss of taste and a low fever can also occur. The symptoms usually last one to two days.

The park facilities will be sanitized and remain closed until further notice.

While there is no cure for the norovirus the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reminds everyone that the best way to reduce transmission is to wash hands with soap and water frequently.
