Presidents may say they don’t pay attention to polls, but some people at the Obama White House today probably are going to be stunned by the new numbers in a Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday. The poll found some Americans consider President Barack Obama the worst to hold the Oval Office since World War II.
In the poll, 33 percent of American voters called Obama the worst since the war, while 28 percent picked his predecessor, President George W. Bush.
President Ronald Reagan was considered the best president since WWII, 35 percent of voters said. Bill Clinton came in second with 18 percent, while John F. Kennedy, whose term was cut should by assassination, came in third with 15 percent.
The interesting numbers came in response to comparing Obama to Bush. Obama is a better president, according to 39 percent, while 40 percent said he’s worse. Republicans very strongly agree that Obama is the worse president, 79-7, while Democrats think the other way, 78-4.
When it comes to the economy, only 37 percent say it is better under Obama than Bush.
Voters were also asked if they had any buyer’s remorse, and obviously Republicans still wish that Mitt Romney won in 2012. Among Republicans, 84 percent say that the U.S. would have been better off with the former Massachusetts governor in the White House. Democrats believe 74-10 that the country would have been worse off with Romney.
“Over the span of 69 years of American history and 12 presidencies, President Barack Obama finds himself with President George W. Bush at the bottom of the popularity barrel," Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said in a statement. "Would Mitt have been a better fit? More voters in hindsight say yes."
The poll was conducted between June 24-30, with 1,446 registered voters nationwide responding.
