The long awaited trailer for the Jimi Hendrix biopic Jimi: All Is By My Side was officially released, taking a look at his London uprising just before he came to America and set, not only his guitar, but the world on fire.

After discovering the song “Sending My Love to Linda”, which Variety notes, the famed director Ridley Scott was inspired to show that time period in Hendrix’ life. The “Linda” Hendrix refers to is Linda Keith, then girlfriend of Keith Richards, who discovered the guitar phenom in a small club in New York.

The trailer depicts the uprising of the guitarist, from the club Keith discovers him, to going to London, meeting Chas Chandler who would become his manager, and shows iconic performances of Hendrix, played by Andre Benjamin of Outkast, playing with his teeth.

MTV reported Benjamin spent hours studying Hendrix interviews and footage to get the part right and even learned how to play a right-handed strung guitar, left handed, like Hendrix did. Imogen Poots also stars as Linda Keith.

Unfortunately, none of Hendrix music is allowed in the movie; Rolling Stone reported the Hendrix estate, run by the late guitarist’s sister Janie, refused to let any of Hendrix work be used unless they had full run of the project.

Jimi: All Is By My Side, already critically acclaimed at various film festivals, is set for nationwide release September 26, eight days after the 44th anniversary of the legend’s passing.
