It has been over two months since Lionsgate and Saban Brands got ‘90s kids excited over a new Power Rangers movie, but there has been no news until today. The studio has signed up writers and a new executive producer to guide the project.

Orci, who is best known for his work on The Amazing Spider-Man films and co-writing Star Trek Into Darkness, has agreed to executive produce. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he will work closely with X-Men: First Class duo Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz to put together the story. Miller and Stentz will write the screenplay.

Variety reports that Orci will work on the movie under his new Sneaky Shark banner. He recently split with longtime writing partner Alex Kurtzman and was just signed to helm Star Trek 3.

Lionsgate and Saban announced the Power Rangers film to great fanfare back in May, but both companies have remained silent on any developments. No stars have been cast and there is not even a director attached.

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers franchise launched in 1993 and was created by Haim Saban, who will produce the new movie with Saban’s Brian Casentini and Lionsgate president of production Allison Shearmur.

The Power Rangers series continues to air on television, with Power Rangers Super Megaforce starting just this past February.
